Jos

Jos Wilschut started playing the guitar at a young age and has always had the instrument with him as a good friend.
At an early age he listened a lot to folk and rock, and also to progressive symphonic and synthesizer music.
Many years of classical guitar training laid the foundation for his current style, which is mainly influenced by folk music and singer-songwriter work.
Fingerpicking, open tunings and bottleneck determine Jos' guitar playing style
As a singer Bob Dylan has always been a great influence.

Jos has played in many bands including new wave and cover bands in which he also played bass guitar for years.

Recently, Jos played in Crimson Inc.

Jos supplies his own songs for the current LovingCounty repertoire. He sometimes performs as a solo artist named Josh Wilco.

Jos' guitars

I play two hand-built Van Spronssen guitars.
Arie van Spronssen is a luthier from Alphen aan de Rijn.
The first guitar Arie built for me was the tricone dobro that I mainly use for slide work.
The guitar is made of quilted maple.

Since I often travel for work, I am always looking for the smallest possible guitars that still offer a reasonable playing experience.
I am also a fan of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson and he plays on very good sounding small guitars.
I then asked Arie to make a small guitar like Ian's. Arie again used beautifully quilted maple and a spruce top. In combination with a Fishman pick-up system and an Acus acoustic amp, the result was amazing.
This parlor guitar is now my main instrument in the band.
I am very fond of my Van Spronssens which are really beautiful instruments.
I enrich the sound with a pedal box containing a delay and shimmer reverb. Furthermore, here and there you can hear my love for symphonic rock by the mellotron sounds that I can mix in.
That is the EHX Mel9 that revives the old times of King Crimson.
